Historic Downtown Venice, Florida
Welcome to the Gulf Coast! While Venice has many must-see destinations, the Venice downtown historic district is one you absolutely must see. Keep reading to see why downtown Venice was once the recipient of the coolest downtown award!
The bulk of downtown Venice is enclosed by East Venice Avenue, West Venice Avenue, Miami Avenue, Tampa Avenue, Nassau Street, and Nokomis Avenue. With free street parking as well as a large, free parking lot on Venice Avenue, accessing any section of downtown Venice is a breeze!
Shopping
Everyone loves shopping - and historic downtown Venice has no shortage of that! With over 100 different family-owned small businesses and restaurants, a vibrant downtown experience awaits. From toy stores to fossil shops and just about everything in between, the shark tooth capital of the world's downtown shopping district has it all!
If you get hungry, there are a number of delicious restaurants to choose from. One of our personal favorites is Carney’s (formerly T.J. Carney’s) Bar & Grill. Everything they serve is incredible and VERY reasonably priced. Definitely check them out, you won’t be disappointed!
Venice Theatre
While the shopping and restaurant scene is fantastic, downtown Venice is also known for other attractions such as the Venice Theater, the largest community theatre per capita in the United States. Located on Tampa Avenue, this theatre was built in 1950 and really adds to Venice's fascinating history. This theatre is very active, making it easy to find a show just about any time.
Venice Art Center
If you like art galleries, check out the Venice Art Center located on Nokomis Avenue. This art center offers over 600 annual classes for people of any age, and 12 different art exhibitions that are FREE to attend! The Venice Art Center is here to support your fun, creative side year-round!
Centennial Park
Right in the center of downtown Venice, lies Centennial Park, where you can enjoy free concerts from live bands, take a break on a bench and admire the vast number of palm trees that line Venice Avenue, relax or play in the numerous green spaces, or take the kids to the intergenerational fountain - an interactive splash pad.
All of downtown Venice has meticulously landscaped areas which contribute greatly to the overall charm and beauty of Florida. Sometimes, we like to come to downtown Venice simply to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Hecksher Park
If you're looking for a little activity to offset all the delicious food, Hecksher Park is conveniently located at the west end of downtown. Here, you'll find basketball courts, a playground for the kids, and our favorite - LIT tennis courts!
At the time of this blog (12/18/23), two of the tennis courts were just resurfaced about a week ago. The courts and kept in phenomenal shape and there is usually availability at any time of the day. If you see us here, say hi!
Venice Farmers' Market

Venice Beach Drum Circle
If you happen to be in downtown Venice on a Saturday or Sunday, head down to Venice Beach to catch the drum circle! Festivities usually start in the early afternoon and last at least through sunset.
